How do you create my loved one's fingerprint on silver jewellery?
When you purchase fingerprint jewellery a moulding kit is included in the price of your purchase. The kit will be sent to you along with with a prepaid envelope to return your completed moulds to us. Please click here for an easy to follow tutorial to help you create the perfect mould
Alternatively, you can visit our studio in Eggbuckland, Plymouth, and we can take the print for you directly on to silver clay. (This is recommended as you get the clearest possible print and it means that your loved on has actually touched the piece of jewellery.) Another option is to book a home visit. Please contact us for further information about studio or home visits or to book an appointment.
So Cherished also sensitively cater for customers who have lost a loved one, providing an everlasting keepsake. If this is a service that you require please either speak with the individual funeral provider or we will be happy to do this on your behalf, depending on the individual policies of the funeral provider.
How do I take hand/foot/paw prints and how do I send them to you?
We recommend choosing the option to purchase an inkless wipe kit with your chosen pendant. The wipe kit is mess free and contains a non-toxic wipe that will create a detailed print on the special memory paper which is also included in the kit. Alternatively you can use black paint or ink on white paper to create a print. Once you are happy with the print take a clear photograph or scan the print and email it to amy@socherishedplymouth.co.uk
How much are your home visits?
Home visits are an additional £10 within a 5 mile radius our Eggbuckland studio, further distances will be charged 50p per mile each way.
What finish will my pendant be completed in? Do I have a choice of finishes?
Unless specifically requested jewellery items will be created with an antique finish, this finish creates a more dramatic piece as it highlights all details. Of course, as previously mentioned, all our items are bespoke and we can finish the pendants to your specific taste. We have a brushed satin finish which is slightly more 'rustic' looking, or we can create a highly polished piece. Again please contact us to discuss individual requirements.
I have an idea for a different design, but it isn't on your website. Are you able to help?
The beauty of hand making each of our items is that there is room for movement in design. We can't promise that we will be able to create your design, however would love to discuss this with you and will endeavour to create the perfect keepsake for you to cherish.
Do you accept returns or offer refunds/exchanges?
Because each item is made to order and a completely bespoke and personal item we are unable to accept returns or issue refunds, unless faulty. We quality check all items before dispatch, and will send you a picture of the completed item before dispatch if requested. Non personalised items may be returned within 28 days please see our returns policy for further information.
How do I book a studio visit?
Please call us on 01752 971966 or email amy@socherishedplymouth.co.uk and we can arrange a suitable date and time.
Will my jewellery be hallmarked?
Current legislation under The Hallmarking act 1973 states that all silver items exceeding 7.78 grams must be hallmarked. If your item is below this weight it will not be hallmarked unless specifically requested.
How long does it take to make my jewellery? When can I expect to receive it?
We will dispatch print kits within 2 working days of your order. As soon as we receive your prints we will begin processing as soon as possible. We advise manufacture can take up to 21 days from receipt of your prints to dispatch, however we aim for it to be dispatched sooner than this. If unforeseen circumstances dictate a delay to your order you will be contacted.
Do you offer a fast track service?
We get to work on your order as soon after we receive your prints as possible, although we advise that your order can take up to 21 days to receive, it is often sooner. If you need your item for a specific date, please contact us and we will do our utmost to fulfil your request. This may have an additional cost.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Of course! Gift vouchers are sold in multiples of £5. It's the perfect baby shower present for that special mummy to be, or the ideal answer if you would like to gift someone our keepsake jewellery and also give them the choice in the type of item/print/finish etc that they would prefer.
What is the best age to take my child's fingerprint?
Generally children's fingerprints don't develop until a few months after birth. This varies from child to child. We recommend waiting until the child is at least 12 months old before taking their prints for jewellery. You can always practise using play doh or something similar to test whether the print is developed.
What age can I have casting done?
Casting is suitable and safe for any age. We can cast newborn all the way up to adults.
What do you use to take 3D moulds is it safe for my skin?
We use a material called alginate, which you may be familiar with if you have ever had impressions at the dentist! As it is dental grade alginate it is a very gentle seaweed based compound which is suitable for even newborn skin.
What if my baby doesn’t sit still?
We have a few options of the best way to take casts and we will base that around the preferences of each individual baby. Your baby is not expected to sit still as the moulding compound starts to set around body heat and takes approximately 2 minutes to set. A little movement is not a problem!
How long will it be until my casts are ready?
Depending on whether or not you are having your casts framed the overall journey takes 6-8 weeks to complete, to ensure appropriate drying times etc.
Can I have my casts freestanding and frame them myself?
Of course you can, however casts need to be sanded to best suit the thickness of the frame and we choose to have each frame made individually to accommodate and suit the size and position of the casts. Our frames are also deeper than the ones that you generally find in craft shops, so will retain more detail when sanded. Our framer is an independently run business close to the studio.
